What is TOLS?

TOLS is an Amsterdam-based creative label that treats clothing as a canvas for expression. I create intentional, slow-fashion pieces rooted in real depth, garments built around the idea of life’s dualities, designed to move you beyond the surface and connect with the meaning behind every print.

How It Operates

TOLS works with only a small number of production partners. I’d rather focus on quality, sustainability, and making garments that truly last, instead of chasing scale or speed.

Every print goes through a careful research process before I commit a single word to fabric. Once a design is finalised, each piece is printed to order. This helps me avoid waste and only create what’s actually needed. All printing is done by a partner who meets high standards for sustainable inks and responsible practices.

Why It Exists

TOLS was born from a desire to express through clothing the duality we all experience every day. The designs are made to spark thought and reflection, with pieces you can live with and discover new layers of meaning over time. The Go Deeper section on each product page adds context and invites your own interpretations, and if you subscribe to the newsletter, I share the research behind every print.

At its heart, TOLS explores the tension between the two sides of our experience, the opposing forces we face in everyday life and the societal structures around us expressed in two collections, Druj and Aion, each offering a different perspective on how we see and move through a world that often pushes us toward isolation.

Druj is an ancient word for the active choice to deceive or act against what is right. It represents cosmic disorder, wickedness, and the chaotic and corrupting force of falsehood that twists truth and tries to unravel the goodness in the world.

Aion, on the other hand, is the ancient personification of boundless time, the eternal, cyclical flow of ages that contains all becoming, with no beginning and no end.

Together, they form a powerful duality: Druj as the deceptive pull toward fragmentation, and Aion as the eternal, renewing whole that transcends and integrates.

Hi, I’m Marco, the person behind TOLS.

For most of my life, I worked as a photographer in fashion, advertising, and high-end jewelry. It sharpened my eye, but it also showed me how easily meaning gets lost when speed becomes the point and more becomes the measure.

In early 2025, during a deep period of personal exploration, I began writing a book about adaptation, cultural shifts, spiritual insight, and psychological depth. As the ideas took shape, some of them started asking for a different form, something physical we could touch, wear, and live with every day. That’s how TOLS was born.

At its core, TOLS is about moving with discernment, working ethically, and staying true to what feels honest. I’m truly grateful you’ve found your way here.
